Rescue...

At Hylee we pride ourselves on bringing in horses that need a second chance, all horses deserve it. The most asked question is : Why do you do it? Our answer to that is well who else can? If the truth was known there are very few people who can successfully rehabiliate, retrain an abused horse. Here we focus on one horse at a time. If you have a horse that needs rescuing please contact us.

Since Hylee Training's conception we have rescued 4 horses. Three of those have been rehabilited, retrained and now have or had successful second chances. The fourth is on her way. Here we will show you their stories.

Our first rescue was Cassia. She was a 20 something Thoroughbred Mare. When we got her she was under weight. We were told she was unmangeable and was not rideable. Previous to Alicia picking her up she flipped over backwards with a girl on her back onto a jump.

As you can see Cassia was extremely under weight. While putting her on a new feeding program, Alicia started working with her. Within two weeks Alicia was able to ride her bareback with just a halter.

Cassia when she arrived was the TB that everyone thinks is a typical TB. Crazy and almost vibrating all the time. Her tune soon changed.

Approximately 3 months later Alicia moved all her horses to a new barn in Richmond, where they all are now.

Cassia AfterAlicia continued to ride and work with Cassia. She quickly found out Cassia was actually an extremely well trained schoolmaster. She then began using Cassia in riding lessons and she blossomed. Cassia extremely enjoyed being a coach to young riders.

Unfortunately this summer Cassia was over come by a disease called "White Line Disease" and had to be put down with the pain was too much for her.

The happy ending to this story? She had a second chance and loved her job if even for
a short time.

Hylee's Suzy Q

Suzy was our second rescue. Suzy had come from a place where her owner had leased her to a young girl and was not living close to where she was being kept. The young girl was not able to properly take care of her. She either didn't have the knowledge or the money to properly take care of a pony.

We got Suzy when she had been placed with Hayburner Haven, from her owner up on the SUnshine Coast. We have heard that she was quite he show pony up there. Suzy wa sonly at Hayburner Haven for a couple of days before we brought her home.

She was undernourished, need her feet done, had no muscle and certainly needed some love.

Suzy was given sometime to gain some weight and was slowly brought into the lesson string. From there Suzy was ridden by every student at Hylee Training. She was the first horse everyone started on. She taught many young riders, how to use their legs and how to steer. I must admit she was one of best teachers Hylee Training has had.

Her youngest student was 3 years old. And she enjoyed testing the students and keeping them on their toes.

Suzy at DRC Winning first placeSuzy was then leased out by a couple of our students as she is a safe and reliable little pony. She took many students to their first shows and did very well. Suzy attended all the shows we went to in 2007. Winning many firsts and giving a ton of students their confidence.

Suzy is now enjoying teaching more little kids to ride at Blue Meadow Farm in Richmond BC, with Yolanda Blommers and Katie Andrews.
